Weaning Baby Parrotlets?

Recommended Posts

hi guys

i have been handrearing 3 parrotlet chicks from just under 2 weeks of age due to Lola escaping from the cage and refusing to return to her chicks. They are now 6 weeks and i have stared to try and weaning them they will happily munch tiny amounts of small soaked seeds, but won't go near the fruit/veg is it a bit soon to expect them to be trying fruit, is there any tips of inticing them with new foods. Also how much seed/fruit/veg sould they be having or is not that important at this stage as they are still been handfed 5 times a day.

thanks, foz

Hi Fozz,

I regularly hand rear parrotlets and all of mine are nearly or fully weaned at 6 weeks of age.

When they start to beak their toes (usually around 4 weeks of age) thats when l start to introduce millet and soft finely chopped fruit and defrosted small mixed veg.

If you need any further advice feel free to pm me.

Have it read this right??? You have been handrearing since around 2 weeks old, they are now nearly six weeks old and still on 5 hand feeds a day?
