puffing up

Recommended Posts

it depend in which type of circumstances he is doing it.......it could be aggression, that is usually accompanied by clicking and growling in most typed of bird, but in a bird that is puffed up all the time this would suggest ill health

Together with Vikky's reply, puffed up feathers is also a sign of relaxation and contentment. Many parrots puff up their head and neck feathers after a good scratch and preen while they are in "beak grinding content, doze mode"

Jazz puffs his feathers up just after he has been trying to give me kisses, along with puffed up feathers we get the fake regurgitation (sp) as well.. So I guess in this case its a happy one

Benjie does this as part of his "hello and welcome have missed you" pose then asks for a tickle. In that scenario its a sign of happiness... fluffing himself out all happy.

Pixie does it when she feels threatened ie.... Im too close (she has a thing about me....) or Benjie has landed on her cage, or general jumpiness.

Freddie always looks "puffed out" cos he is a fat and greedy Amazon.......

I think all in all it depends on the situation and the bird hun xx
