Fruit Pips

Recommended Posts

Hi, this may be a silly question.. but I'm going to ask it anyway!!

Can parrots have the fresh seeds out of melons, papyas, peppers etc? I seem to think not, but I'm not sure where I got this piece of info from... surely they'll eat the seeds of fruit in the wild?

Thanks!

They are the best bits - they love them :D

My Ekkie goes mad for the seeds.

The only ones that i dont give mine is apple pips and anything with stones in the middle ie. mango, plums etc - i take the stone out first.

I don't give mine stones out of things like cherries. But they go mad for apple pips! Now I know there is talk of them containing cyanide! But according to Rosemary Lowe (caique expert) they'd have to eat about 1000 per day for there to be any ill effect. So mine have them and love them!

I ordered some nutriberries (with pineapple/papaya/mango) from http://www.24parrot.com and they arrived today. My Ekkie loves them and has been tucking in. :D

He also loves the coconut pieces that you can get from the same website.

Also a couple of almonds a day as a treat aswell.

Just a couple of things that you could try Diesel on.

Ekkies always chuck their food out of their bowl, they are really messy!! lol
