Hi, advice needed .... Eclectus - UPDATE = got one :)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to this site. I am looking for any advice that people have to offer on the following.....Our little beloved green cheeked conure has recently passed away and now we would like to go for a larger parrot. In my local pet shop there is a 20wk old male eclectus for sale and we were considering buying it as it looks very pretty and not too large. I understand that they need lots of attention and a large cage. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there Lammykins, sorry to hear about your conure

I have a 21 week old male Eclectus. I have had him just over a month now. He is a fantastic bird, not at all noisy and very entertaining. I used to have an Orange Winged Amazon and i would say that Eclectus need as much attention as any other parrot would. I would definately recommend an Eclectus!! :D:D Please feel free to ask me any questions if i can be of any help.

Hi elle, thanks for your advice. I saw your photos and he is a lovely bird! I was wondering roughly how big you would say your cage is because i would need to purchase my cage first in order for them to sell me him! I would be able to buy him for £600 and then whatever the cage costs.

thank you.

The general rule about cage sizes is ...

~ the biggest you can afford

~ the largest you can fit in

~ ensure cage bar spacing is correct

~ make sure the door is big enough

~ check it'll be easily cleaned

(Very occasionally, there will be a bird who prefers a smaller cage and feels more secure, but this is rare)
